Lightbulb - A Theatre Play
Writer, Composer and Producer
Orchestral, Synth, Emotional, Dark
From the imagination of Stephen Pottinger comes KPB Theatre’s new play “Lightbulb”. Lightbulb is a thrilling quest for normality in a world where everything is virtually possible, but virtually nothing is as it seems. Set in a lonely room, a group of misfits, bound by routine, find themselves constructing a volatile personal quasi-reality instead of living in the strict confines of a new society, a society which is dictated by greedy and paranoid rich “money makers”. Will their dangerous game be the answer that they are looking for? Or will they end up in a world of darkness?
Gerry in the Attic - Original Musical
Composer and Producer
Orchestral, West End Style Musical, Emotional, Epic, pop
Set in an old peoples home, Gerry in the Attic follows a group of geriatrics on an adventure to break out and deliver their dear friends ashes to his final resting place. The songs for this musical are a mix of emotion and showcase the magic of the cast becoming young during musical numbers. I wanted to have a british sounding feel to this musical.
Puzzle - Jazz Colle.
Orchestral, Kinetic, Jazz Dance, Show, Japanese
Set in a fantastical place where one must follow the rules, a sect breaks out with one girl who does not believe in following the rules. The theme music and the finale for this musical dance spectacle were written by Composer Stephen Pottinger.
Dreamcatcher - Original Musical
Composer and Producer
Orchestral, West End Style Musical, Emotional, Epic, Rock
Gary Beaubouef had written a bedtime story for his children. This became the base for this musical. Stephen Pottinger learned Native American Flute to compose this thrilling Rock Musical about Native Americans fighting powerful and evil magic spirits. It was premiered in Nagoya, Japan in November 2013.
Unmarked - A Play by Joe Sichi
Composer
Orchestral, Choral, Emotional, Sound design, Atmospheric
I was asked to write this Requiem as a score for a play called "Unmarked" that was premiered in Nagoya, Japan in 2019. It was written by Joe Sichi and was performed at Youth Square. The play is about the experiences of Allied Prisoners of War here in Japan. I wanted to create a score that emphasized the darkness of the play. With Faith being such an integral part of the play I decided to use the Requiem as a base for writing my score. The score is designed to be thematic and atmospheric.
Bent - A play
Orchestral, West End Style Musical, Emotional, Epic, Rock
Bent is a 1979 play by Martin Sherman. It revolves around the persecution of gays in Nazi Germany, and takes place during and after the Night of the Long Knives. The music for this needed to reinforce the depth of emotion and cover on-stage dress changes as the limited cast were "reborn" into new characters throughout the play.
Wait Until Dark - A Play
Electronica, dark,
Wait Until Dark is a play by Frederick Knott, first performed on Broadway in 1966 and often revived since then. A film version was released in 1967, and the play was published in the same year. This was the end theme for the Nagoya performance.
A Christmas Carol - A Play
Electronica, dark, sound design, orchestral
The christmas carol involved making sound design for the entrance of the ghosts. I used a mix of VSTI and materials that I purchased from the home center to build sound design and ambiance to reflect the messages of each of the ghosts.
